The fact that there is no category for reporting such posts, despite the huge range of categories supplied, makes me wonder.

It is the fact that it is necessary to use the category 'other' for such a standard report that bothers me and makes me wonder if racism is condoned by Yahoo.

I wonder about the same thing. Yahoo! surely does not condone it but the could get better at monitoring and condeming it. I always report such users (or should I say abusers) and Yahoo! DOES take action. Next time you see something derogatory, do not hesitate for a moment to report it.

Since Yahoo is an American company, perhaps they do not want to infringe on a person's freedom of speech. I agree that many of the questions and answers are abhorrent. In America your speech, no matter how hateful is protected by the US Constitution. The problem arises when people start acting upon their racist, homophobic, etc. tirades. Since acting upon such tirades is outside the realm of Yahoo! Answers, it is not something they want to spend the money on monitoring.

This is just my opinion on the matter. I don't work for or represent Yahoo!. My answer just makes sense to me.

I don't believe Yahoo condones it. Whenever I would report abuse for racial slurs I would use the "incites hatred" category but now it's changed to "epithats and slurs" but I have stopped reporting because it really doesn't do any good. The violators eventually lose their account but all they have to do is create a new ID and they're right back in business.

Darn that first amendment! (this is sarcastic, by the way)

People have the right to say just about anything they want. I completely agree with you that racism is not appropriate. But just because you see it on Yahoo! Answers doesn't mean you have to agree with it.

If you feel you're seeing too much of it here, just don't come here anymore. Or post a response that explains how you feel.

Its called free dom of speech and yahoo does remove some offensive remarks, but the offenders seem to come in all races and creeds. Surprised that a number of answers are rude in many respects, but the funny ones make it worth while.

I think there is a place you can report it, but really, I just scroll past anything like that, some people don't have enough in their lives to do, and apparently their little minds are so full of bitterness and hatred, this is a good anonymous place to do it.

Just feel sorry for them, they do have a mental problem....

No, of course Yahoo does not "condone" it, as you so nicely worded it. That would expose them to all kinds of sanctions.
However, they cannot read all and every question and answer. So it's up to you, me and everybody else to report them.
You can report it as "Other" and then specify "Racism".

It's really pathetic isn't it? You make a joke or don't put 'what song is this from' before a lyric, and it gets taken down after five minutes. These vile, venomous pieces of shi t spout hatred and bile, and they get left alone. My recommendation? If they have an email, send them loads of old gay porn. It's fair to say they don't like it.

Free speech. After all the racists found even a better place to hide and express their hatred. Don't feel annoyed, learn how they operate.
