I would see my Doctor. Your Child may have a Hearing problem. or could have something called A.D.H.D (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). It could be anything. So I would see my Doctor.

Don't worry...kids this age often have difficulty talking, make sure you talk to your doctor...it could be a hearing problem.
ADHD cannot and should not be diagnosed in a child this young...it is normal for a two year old not to want to sit and listen to an entire book. Try the book "NO David" and keep reading the books even if he gets up and walks around...he may come back and sit if he thinks you're having a good time!

I was a preschool teacher for 6 years and have three kids of my own.

I would seek help. There are many resources that your doctor could help you find. Just because your doctor recommends you to see someone doesn't mean that anything is wrong necessarily. Maybe your son just needs some special attention to start talking away or maybe it is something like he needs tubes in his ears because he cannot hear. No matter what the cause of his speech delay... EARLY INTERVENTION IS KEY TO SUCCESS!

P.S. I know in the US that if a child is under three years old they can receive speech therapy for free. The specialist will come to your house or daycare for x amount of time each week.

I hope this helps. Good luck

My son is the same way although he will be turning 3 in 5 months. I have had his hearing checked and nothing is wrong in that department. So I agree with everyone else have his hearing checked if just to rule it out. Now that we have my son's hearing ruled out we have an appointment with a Speech disabilty Doctor who will see if he indeed has any kind of speech problem that is causing his delay. So, All that I can suggest is to get his hearing checked, then check out other possibilities. Also, talk to him like there is no tomorrow. Just talk and talk and hopefully soon he will pick up on a few more words.Good luck!

My daughter is almost 2 and is experiencing similar frustration. She says some basic words, but gets really upset when she can't communicate what she's feeling, or if I misread her requests. I am going to have her evaluated just as a precaution. I am told that a lot of kids who are as active as my daughter speak later, and not to worry, but if there is a problem, I'd like to know sooner rather than later, so we can fix it before she falls behind her peers. Denial helps no one. I think you should have your son evaluated too, even if just for peace of mind.

Try not to worry about it - I have a cousin who didn't say one word (not even mom or dad!) until he was 4 and now he owns his own business - nothing was ever wrong with him. It might be worth it though to get his ears checked as it could be a hearing problem or maybe something more serious like ADHD. Once you can identify the problem it's half the battle and you'll know what to do to rectify it.

Good luck. :)

It may be normal but i would take your son to the doctors and get his ears and hearing checked - re-occurant undiagnosed ear infections can cause temporary or permanent hearing loss. A Friend of mines son has the same problem and after 2 operations and lots of time he is almost 4 and finally starting to talk!!!
Good Luck!!!!

I understand what you're going through. My son is 29 mos old and not speaking yet. We have enrolled in our states early intervention program and have a speech\language pathologist work with him and us a few times a month. We have also been teaching him basic sign language to help ease the frustration on both sides. keep reading and speaking to him-ask open questions so he can respond. It will improve. good luck

Not all kids learn on the same level. Not one of them is the same.My son learned to talk at 8 months.Really he could talk in sentences before he was one,But my niece could not talk till she was 2.So I really dont think u have anything to worry about yet.He will be fine. They all go to school one day and there is no turning back from there.Good luck huh!!
