I've heard RosettaStone.com is supposed to be a good site. Another site, one that I've explored, is german.about.com, which is more of a resource site--it doesn't offer courses, but it does offer tips, lexicons, and even forums in which you can practice writing in or about German.

i could teach you my dialect (plattdutsche, basically saxon-german) but it's hardly the same
