I believe you are either unaware or in denial of what really transpires in Islamic countries. I have read countless books, by Middle Eastern authors and have had several family members spend long spans of time in that region of the world-Homosexuality is very common there. Sadly, the pretense that it exists is almost as prevalent,if not more, as the homosexuality itself.
I would not point too quickly and say that it's specifically related to religion. I would say that culturally, which is partly shaped by each of our respective religions, the way we as societies have extreme approaches to sexuality, whether restrictive or liberal-can foster this type of behavior-whether clandestine or open.
I have also heard from many muslim men, including my ex-husband, that homosexual acts between men are quite normal-but they only consider the male on the receiving end(the submissive one) to be the homosexual. The aggressor/dominant male, who is performing the penetration, is not considered to be homosexual-he's just putting it wherever he can to take care of his needs.
Of course this is a very warped perception and it gives a futher glimpse into the psyche of the men who perpetuate this kind of thought/action; which, sadly is not uncommon in this part of the world. Denial is a very dangerous thing.
I come from a culture where we greet each other with a kiss on the cheek-those whom we know, family members and those we have a trust with. It is not restricted to our specific gender. Of course, I would not use this greeting with just anyone, and not for someone who was married or not within our family's circle of trust. When you make blanket generalizations, such as you have, you are inviting blanket generalizations in kind. I would be more careful how you pose your questions and really think about what you are asking and evidence you are presenting.

I believe that the percent of homosexuality might be the same, but the repression of expression might be greater in areas of religious fundamentalism.
I think that the number of homosexuals living an open life style in a strictly enforced Christian community would be the same as that in an Islamic country.

lots of gays and lesbians in the Philippines. Its mostly Catholic. Are they considered Christians? incidentally, in some Moslem countries, homosexual acts between males often occur, but not for love of man, but because of such repressed sexual practises there, like they dont allow dating like in the West...I spent time in North Africa, and had to beat of the men a few times....and I am sure they just wanted to get thier rocks off, not fall in love with me.

could just be upbringing. you don't have to be gay to show affection to the same gender. women give pecks on the cheek as greetings in some places and men often hug for various reasons. But kissing, I dunno. Not many men I know would actually volunteer to kiss another guy just b/c he's uncomfortable doing so naturally.

better than your question, the description/Details part is quiet interesting, and make to think.
