if he's old, it might just be arthritis. but you should still take him to the vet to be sure. our former dog was the same way. it started with her not wanting to come upstairs. we thought it was just joint pain until she started falling down. turned out she had some type of nerve disease in the base of her spine and completely lost feeling from her hips down in less then a year from her diagnosis. it ultimately led to her having to be put down because she was finally not able to walk or get up at all. she was 14 when she was diagnosed, so we assumed it was old age. :( please dont make the same mistake we did. have him checked out. could also be knee problems. our other dog had to have both knees replaced around 10 years old because her fat butt jumped off the couch too many times and tore both of them. we noticed she was hurt the day she tried to jump on the couch and gave up after the first attempt. that wasnt like her at all. she had both replaced and is still alive at 15, completely blind (unrelated- genetic problem) but going strong.

but go to the vet!
