Dowry the term means when a propasal has been made among two parties the brides party offers a dowry either in money, property, jewellery, furnitures and etc: The brides parents give this dowry to the bridegroom on the wedding day to look after their daughter for life. This system has been in india,Sri-Lanka mostly for many many years which is customery thing but dying slowly as the countries being modernised and taken western cultures, but still exists. When two people are in love and marry this doesnt happen, only the marraige is proposed by someone a dowry is given. This is a very unfair system as the male dont give dowry to the females.

Dowery is a curse.Whereas it is a necessary evil for the girl's parents, it tends to show the boy's parents as paupers and beggers.
