100% is has to be a radiator paint, anything else may give off toxic fumes.

Radiator paint is especially designed for heat.

You only need a small tin for a gas fire, so the cost will not be too frightening.

Enamel paint is probably the best bet but ask at the paint shop first. Emulsion will just flake off with the heat

Get her to the vet. Today if possible, if not, then watch her very closely tonight and take her tomorrow morning. It's probably just a few snuffles, my two kittens had the exact same symptoms a month ago and are now fine. If this is the case, it can be really easily cured with some medicine you can put in her food for a week. But the longer you wait to take her to the vets, the more you'll prolong her suffering - and if it is something more serious, then you'll need to catch it double quick.

They sell a paint to use on grills, BBQs, etc. The paint color is black and works well against the heat. The only problem I have with it (and it shouldn't matter to you with the fire being gas) is that the ash from my logs makes the black turn whitish grey, until I clean it again. I know -- pet peeve -- but you should be fine with it. 1 can will do it for you.

I used a cellulose spray paint on mine. Just be careful not to expose it to naked flames until it dries (which is pretty quick)
