Break the ice first, small comments when you meet them, eg a genuine compliment, could be their hair, a piece of jewellery etc. Note their comments, if they mention a relative, or pet, enquire about them the next time you meet. Ask questions which do allow for a yes or no answer. Eg what hobbies do you have? Listening and not being judgemental is a good way to start a friendship. It takes time to build up a good friendship.... and your best friends, you only find that out when you are seriously in trouble and they are right by your side!
