My local butcher in Edin. won the national haggis prize but not a very obvious place to visit!
McSweens is good and avaliable in loads of places all over scotland.

Stornoway haggis is by far and away the best and can be found in most of the top restaurants. Ramsays is a good one. Just eat at a decent standard of restaurant- most of them use Stornoway haggis. An awesome one is Cafe Gandolfi in Glasgow which has haggis and white or black pudding. The Three Sisters, Cafe Source and McPhabbs also use really good quality, very tasty haggis.

I prefer tinned Haggis (I think Grants do some). Make sure the tin has been well chilled before you open it at both ends and push out the haggis. Slice the tinned haggis up into thin slices.

Put these slices on as part of a pizza topping with lots of cheese. Absolutely fantastic!

Almost any small local butcher will sell good haggis - often they make their own. I can recommend haggis from Gairloch in Wester Ross and from Dingwall in the East. If you are a haggis novice try slicing it and grilling under a hot grill until crisp and browned. Boiling is the traditional way but the texture can be off-putting. Serve with mashed potatoes (tatties) and mashed swedes (neeps). What a treat!

If you are keen to try as soon as you cross the border, I reccommend either of the butchers in Jedburgh, who sell good local meat (for local people). Also, if you can't quite stomach the idea of sheeps bits, try McSween's Vegetarian Haggis, also available in most supermarkets (the Co-op does it)! I used to eat meat but never liked haggis...but this is great! For gourmet Vegetarian Haggis try Hendersen's Bistro just off George St in Edinburgh. One of the best places I've ever had haggis was a pub called the 'Craig Dhu'. They did this dish that was chicken and haggis stuffed pancake in a creamy sauce.....mmm haggis. Now I'm craving it!!!!
Of course, haggis and neaps is a great dish, but this makes a nice change!

Just north of the Scottish-English border the Scottishness of everything is very strong, same with the quality of haggis, and with deep-fried Mars bars, literature, traditions/customs of all sorts. Very Scottish indeed, even if no distilleries. Try Moffat, or Haddington over east, chippies.

On a company "conference" we participated in a malt whisky tasting accompanied by a highland piper and haggis with the traditional trimmings. Memorable!

Buy a McQueens Haggis. Some supermarkets do them. A good butchers will make their own, Make sure it is wrapped in the stomach.
