How old are you? through my teenage years i did not have a fantastic relationship with my dad i now realise he just did not know how to handle me (i did go off the rails abit) but now im older and behaving myself (most of the time) i have a great relationship with him infact it is better then ever my dad is great he is always there for me i love him to bits.

Im sure the things he says are not meant to hurt you he just wants what is best for you he will proberly think it is the right way explain to him how it makes you feel im sure you can resolve this and have a great relationship with your father

Why is your father saying those things about you? You are hurt because what he says is true?
If its not true, why don't you prove to him that you are capable? You should be communicating with your father. Do not argue with him, but explain to him that you will try to meet with his expectations of you. if his expectations are too high, then tell him so. That what he's expecting from you is too much. Come to an agreement with him on what should be the goal for you to achieve. Then go ahead and aim to achieve it.
Parents scold their children not to hurt them but are concerned that they will not be successful in life. All parents want their children to be successful and do better than them. Some parents hope that their children will become what they hoped for but could not achieve themselves. Maybe your father is using you to show others that he's capable? He will be proud of you, if you are successful. So do it. Be successful.

I am nearly 30 yrs old, and my father has been hurting my feelings for my entire life...It still hurts to this day, I have pretty much given up on ever getting his praise or approval for anything, I wish I could tell you what to do...good luck

talk to him, give arguments why you think he should change his way of dealing with you and your problems. he is your father, and he loves you more than you think; there is a great difference between what he thinks and what he says, be sure of that.
