Most banks will give you a debit card if they let you set up an account.... a credit card is a totally different matter (and my own opinion is that students shouldn't be allowed credit cards - I'm a student myself and during my freshers fair a bank (barcleys) was there getting students to sign up to their credit cards - it took until my 3rd year for me to get rid of mine - which I feel is irresponsible of both the bank AND the uni for letting the bank flog their wares)

Anyway back to your question, two of my Aussie friends managed to set up an account (with debit cards) with Lloyd's tsb, but you'll need passport, a letter from your uni probably some other stuff. Another friend (from Malaysia) got an account with Natwest.

Hope that helps

I work for a UK bank.... sorry not that easy, you have to apply like the rest of us and if you fit the right criteria, have all the relevant docs, then you will get one !!! Normally all banks require an account to be running minimum of 6 months before they will issue one..... Good Luck

Usually all you need to do to get a debit card is have money in the bank. It doesn't entitle credit.

Join Natwest and you get your solo card that you can use for transaction at any retail oulet.
You can only spend the money you have though; its not a credit card, it's a debit card.
