just like seven-up... i think it's because they are lime flavored!!! and lime is green...(just a thought)

When Sprite first came out most of the drink on the market (patent medicines, beer, opiated drinks) contained natural flavoring ingredients which break down in light and required packaging in dark bottles in order to prevent degradation in sunlight. Now that artificial flavorings are less sensitve to light the green bottle is no longer needed.

Seconding (or thirding or fourthing, whatever) the 'marketing gimmick'. It's a clear soda. Remember those awful 'remixed' sprite sodas? A clear soda in a clear bottle still looks a lot like water. I think the green colored bottles definitely make it appear more 'refreshing'.

Because green looks fresh, cooling and thirst quenching.
It could also have something to do with not wanting the sun to affect the drink itself, like beer is always in a coloured bottle to keep the beer from going bad from sunlight.

Because the makers want to bring to mind and emphasize the fresh greenness of lemons and limes.
It's just a marketing gimmick.

Because the old glass bottles they used to use were green, because they were cheaper to use. Guess they wanted to keep it going.
