Culture, language, misunderstanding, and more play into why so many differences in what God represents to people.
Messages where given to different cultures in the best way they would understand.
Now with more and faster communications, people are more inclined to hang onto their past teaching, instead of investigating and finding what truth fits them personally the best.
Or is it the few think for the masses?
This to me is what is going on, but people like you asking that kind of question show that there are still people wanting to find out for them selves.

God(s)... You answered your own question. Not everyone believes in the 'same' God.. And, even if any 'two' religions did, there are faults... Such as this, and I learned so recently...
Christianity and Muslims.. Or Islamic.
Christians believe that Jesus was the son of God, and that he is God and the Holy Spirit-- the three which make up the Trinity...
Muslims believe Jesus is not the son of God. They believe he is the son of Peter-- a desciple of Christ himself.. which they also believe Jesus was a "perfect" being, like Christians believe.
Muslims also believe Jesus was a great Prophet, like Mohammad. However, Mohammad is barely mentioned in Christianity. As Christians do believe Jesus was/ is a great prophet, they do not refer him as one, with respects to how he was born of the virgin Mary, and God the Father almighty...
There are other relations to this... But, that is a small variation of each religion. Christians believe in the Bible... Muslims do not, and only refer to the Qu'ran and Sunni. Both the Qu'ran and Sunni interpret eachother... Moreover, the Sunni gives details on what the Qu'ran's verse's mean.
Christians don't refer to the Qu'ran or the Sunni at all...making both religions simular, but different in many aspects.
Budism does not merge with the God of Christianity or Islams at all.. Which is why any ONE religion is impossible. Likewise, Wiccans and some Aetheist believe that God may exist, but are open to extreme possibilities of 'other' Gods existing or that none exist at all.
Hope this helped in a way...

Religion as its the word means getting re united. When saying getting reunited it means reunion with one and the same force which has caused for his or hers existence in this world. Thus to get yourself reunited there are different ways of being oneness to God. Accordingly people have segregated them self into different religion according to rituals they follow. The purpose is all the same getting to know of God and to be with him for ever. In other words getting your self realized.
It is just like asking why do we require so many doctors when every body is treating the same disease.

Everyone in whatever religions they profess does have faith in God, but it seems our paths to Him differ. We can't seem to agree on the rules.

Lots of power hungry people in every culture trying to control a LOT of people with a few words and traditions.
Oh, people who practice Shinto don't believe in God, and Budists don't believe Bhudda was a god. And... Wiccans and Pagans don't believe in gods, they believe in "dieties" that represents some part of what's natural, but they don't nessicarily worship them... I could go on... I don't think Jesus meant that his "Father in Heaven" was God. I think he was refering to himself and his power in a way to not stirr up crazyness for a time when people believed that there were many gods controling everything. Imagine if he told everyone that they could do everything he did. And they did it. We all would be worshiping ourselves today. As well we should. We are gods and goddesses.

God, Spirit, Higher Power, Holy One, and on and on. Whatever name you want to put with it, the bottom line is having a power greater than yourself to turn your life over to. Each culture, each religion, each belief has their own. The important thing is to believe there is a power greater than yourself. Whether it be the tree next to you, or the moon above you, it's there.

This is a very intelligent and insightful question, kudos to you. Different religions were created, by man, as a way to pit people against each other. Man is very susceptible (easily influenced) to corruption; the flesh is weak.

necause there is onlt one true God but everyone wants to worship a god of their own making, oftheir own imagination , with characteristics that they are comfortable with- that will allow them to justify their own sinful behavior without ever having to be accountable- the anger and bitterness comes because we all know deep down that we will be accountable to the ultimate authority one day- some are just too prideful to admit it- they want to answer to no one but themselves or they want to decide what they will and will not have to answer about.
Creating a God to suit your own needs and desires is idolotry- there is one true God- the same yesterday, today and tomorrow- His character is true and unchanging and no matter what people choose to believe aobut Him, He is who He is
