I've been vegan for several years and I'm also a general surgeon. Most of the diseases I treat are from people eating meat. Visit my website at RightArmofLove.org. We give lectures on how to use diet and lifestyle to prevent, treat and defeat disease. To improve your diet, or any aspect of your health, make gradual but progressive changes, otherwise you won't stick with them. For diet improvements, recipes are the key. We have a couple on our site but at our lectures and for special requests we have lots of recipes available that are quick but delicious and most importantly, nutritious.

While traveling, stay away from fast food if you can but you'll find places to get quick, healthier foods. Subway is great for veggie subs. Burrito places often have good choices, just leave out the cheese--it's worse for you than meat, and also harder to give up for most people. We have a good vegen "cheese" sauce on our site. (The olive oil is 1/2 cup). I just made a batch tonight. You HAVE to chill it in the fridge overnight before eating it, trust me.

Take a look at our site and email with specific questions, we'll be happy to help. Enjoy the literature page too.

You don't have to eat meat if you don't want to. There are lots of food that have the needed protein and iron that meat have. Leafy green lettuce will help. Peanut butter is comparable to meat. My father has always said meat, potatoes and vegetables, that's a proper supper. Not, I say. Not that I'm a vegetarian, but pretty close. Meat makes me feel super super full, and then not feel well. I usually eat veggies and pasta, and take a multi-vitamin, and I also am a busy woman. Trust me, you don't need to eat meat. IF you have the time, go visit a nutritionist.

Many places offer food that is not meat. You need to get yourself a book and read about it how to balance your diet without meat. Raw nuts are a good source. You can make things at home over the weekend like sunflower burgers, etc., the things you can make is limitless, and then you can freeze them and then take what you want to work. I think you would be surprised how good things taste at room temp. Also, if you stick to restaraunt things, go with the meatless cuisine. I don't like cow either. For a complet protien on the run, a whole grain bread and peanut butter is good, raw peanut butter that is.

I'm a vegetarian, never eatin meat in my life and I'm a professional athlete. So you can do it if you want to, in a healthy way. Protein from soy and dairy. They have veggie everything now, veggie burgers, hot dogs, chicken, ribs, lasagna, etc. They may not taste the same, but they're a good substitute. Just be careful not to eat too much of anything. To much of anything is not good for you. Have a good balance.

The question is, why in the universe do you want to forego the consumption of meat?

Meat is like any other food. Taken in moderation, it is good for you. Taken in excess, it is bad. Fried in oil or covered in grease, ANY food is bad for you.

I am a vegetarian, and although it is hard while traveling its not impossible, you can find vegetarian meals everywhere, such as salads, potatoes, and those naked juices make a great meal replacement, you can find those wherever you go.
Good luck
