Use some ear plugs like the ones the swimmers wear... or put some cotton balls in your ears.

Please get the surgeon to apprise you, at least on telephone, if he/she is far away. The surgeon should have done that automatically, as part of professional responsibility, but surgeons are a heavily loaded lot, and human too. No harm asking the surgeon, since it is a professional matter; ear surgery being a delicate subject, common-sense solutions may not be sufficient / altogether-correct.

you need earplugs; or try cotton in your ears and being very careful when you rinse; or you could go to a beauty shop to have your hair washed and tell the beautician about needing to keep ears dry.
best wishes,

After my 20 month old niece had tubes put in her doctor said to take cotton balls, dip them in Vaseline, and insert them into ears. It worked wonders!

Try this new invention called ear-plugs. If you can't find those, try something a little older - cigarette butts.
