It does get better with time. Our little dog died almost 2 weeks ago, and I'm still hurting. It helps because I believe we'll see our pets again when we go to the other side. I know she's happy and pain free, and waiting for me. I have 2 cats, and that helps having them around to love and take care of. When you feel the time is right, get another dog. There are lots of great dogs that need a good home.

Time is the only thing that will ease your pain. I have put many animals to sleep (pet rats, cats, dogs and a horse that I had for 12 years). I still miss each and every one of them at certain times. A new pet may help although if you are still in heavy mourning it may cause you more pain, if the new pet does something that reminds you of the old pet. Also, if you get a new pet remember that they are all separate animals and try not to "compare" the new pet to the old one.

Pet death is the worst part of pet ownership, although an evil that cannot be avoided. You (and only you) will know when you are ready for another pet.

I have faith that they will all be waiting for me at the Rainbow bridge.....and I'm going to be trampled!

I wish I did have tips on getting over the pain. All I can say is time...time doesnt make you forget but it does dull the pain a bit. I hope I never truly get over their losses though as that would mean (to me anyway) that I had forgotten the impact they had on my life so I welcome that little twinge of pain and love I feel when I think of my lost pets. It just helps that I have other furkids to help focus on and the pain from losing my 'old' pets helps me to appreciate the time I have with my 'new' pets and enjoy and love them to the fullest each and every day. I am so sorry for your loss and I hope for you that you find a way to deal with this that is best for you :)

I am so sorry for your dog, but I think you should get another dog of a different breed. This way the new dog's affection will help you and you will love the dog, without having the feeling that you tried to replace the old one. Being a different breed will help you because this dog will be different so you will always have the image of two very different dogs, with different personalities, that you will love very much.

I did the same thing in April. I know how sad and awful you feel. It takes time I guess. I have good and bad days and there is no telling when the pain will come back. I guess it's part of the whole life/death process. I know it sucks so bad- I try to remember the fun times, the time when she was a cute little puppy, acting so stupid anfd doing dumb things. It plain old sucks. That's the price we pay for falling in love with a pet I guess.

Sorry for your loss,
I have had some of my pets down it is really hard to move on sometimes, I have found getting another pup help me get over them better, you don't replace your love for the first dog, you just find another cute puppy to love. I have put down 2 old pony & 1 old cat and 4 dogs. One dog was really old, the other's had a bad disease to which I had to put them down.

It just takes time. Just like when you lose anything or anyone that you love...there is no quick fix...remember the good times/memories. Getting a new pet can help too! I did a pound rescue, and purposely rescued a dog that no-one else would want.

I would say get you a new dog. It really Helps. When my wife and I lost one of our dogs, I went and got her a Min-Pin, she loves him to death, we still think of her dog, but when she needs to get some puppy love she has the New Min-Pin and our other dog and that works for me..
