We had this discussion in my microbiology course....while there are recommendations, it doesn't really matter...if you get airborn particles on your toothbrush, your immune system is well-equipped to handle them. Bacteria require just-right conditions to thrive...its not likely a colony is going to form on your toothbrush.

Now if you drop your toothbrush in the toilet...(you immune system could probably handle that too but....)..then I would just toss the brush...LOL

Just get a toothbrush holder....that's what I did. Also, I know it sounds silly, but every once in a while I'll stick my toothbrush in a glass of water and put it in the microwave for about 3 minutes (until it starts boiling). Then I'm not worried about the germs.

Ways to avoid the spread of bacteria are to close the lid before you flush and to keep your toothbrush inside a container. You can get one for .99 cents.

have you ever seen myth busters? their was a whole segment on that show about this very same thing, and the answer they come up with was this: the toothbrushes in the bathroom as well as the ones in the kitchen all had air born particles from the toilet on them.
