i just cant seem to figure people out.
you have people who say they are Christians who are supposed to love one another. you have the Muslims who believe the same way and so on so. then you have the pagans who believe in live and let live, do what you will but hurt none. the list just goes on forever
i personally wonder if the biggest fault lies in the Non believers the people who dont have faith of any kind what is your opinion? I'm not just talking about faith in the bible or god I'm talking about faith in any thing. i have friends and family from all religions even Christan, wiccans and Muslim and so on and i hear what they believe but yet i dont see them practicing what they preach. with out faith even love is weak. tell me whats on your mind

i do not belong to any religion at all but i study them, i respect all. just look around at all the anger and the crimes going on if people believe in something any thing at all i feel in my heart that things would change. most people just use a religion as a shield to hide behind. we need to have faith in our selves and each other and most of all have faith that tomorrow will be a better day. anger breeds anger and love breeds love and the same is true for hate. just one person can affect the lives of many

Wow good question and good point. People only know what they experience albeit through doing, reading or learning vicariously through others. You don't really know what someone else has experienced unless they tell you. no one is going to tell you everything. So in the end you really can't judge one way or the other besides it is not my place to judge anyone else.

Dear Unitedfaith,
i think when we look at people we always find ourselves somewhat disappointed. i think this is what the Bible means that everyone sins and falls short of the glory of God. No one is perfect. As you observe this- think about how much higher God's standard is.
It is sad because many people do get their idea of any religion from observing its believers. i'm not sure who is really at fault- only that people are sinful and some sins are more blatant than others.
I think this is where the Bible is so significant. Because it is God telling us about man. I too like you am sometimes so dumbfounded by the things that people do and the extent that people can be hypocritical and evil.
Anyhow i hope that answers your question and helps...
Kindly,
Nickster

People have faith in lots of things even if they are non-believers. But I think this question is confusing. You say they don't practice what they preach, but how do you actually know that?
They have their own beliefs, and I would assume they believe it because they have some sort of faith vested in it.
On the other hand, I'm wondering if you are questioning religion all together, rather it be Christian, Wiccan, Muslim.
The bottem line is, people are not perfect. You look at yourself, not to others and judge them. It's not our place to do that, not our place to find fault in their belief system or lack thereof. .

So it's easy to pin it on the non-believer? Most non-believers put their faith in their families, friends and communities. If others aren't following the tenants of their religion it is not their fault as they have nothing to do with it.
Everyone has to take responsibility for their own lives.. belief systems don't even come into play. Perhaps when people do that on a mass scale you will see the change you seek.

Then maybe the fault is in belief itself. 'Non believers' (non practising believers) and believers, still believe in blindly followin the religion of their parents and country men. Take a stand people, seek after truth, dont be blind anymore, come out of the cave. Become an atheist.
Belief is the problem, Knowing is the cure. Know once and for all; No One Knows JACK about a God or Gods. Be free to discover for your self. Be 'Born Again'... and re learn everything

non-believers have nothing to do with it. it is the fanatical believers that take the strength of their beliefs and try to use it as a weapon against each other. if you look at history you will see a great many wars were in one way or another tied in with two conflicting religions. it was never a case of eliminating a religion so they believe in nothing, but often a case of eliminating their god so they believe in ours.
of course, my theory is that most often these wars have nothing to do with religion, but men are far more willing to die for their god than for the opportunity to line the pockets of their politicians, and so wars are made to be about religion. though religion isn't the cause of the war, it wouldn't get nearly as big or bloody if religion wasn't involved.
you see, non-believers tend to value their lives and their families above all else. staunch believers are always willing to sacrifice for the cause, no matter what.

First of all, I'm athiest. Just because i dont believe in god or a higher power doesnt mean that i dont think people should be treated well and with respect. I believe that you should treat others as you want to be treated... not because that's what the bible says... but because people deserve to be treated that way.

incredible. i love Ben Stein. He has executed artwork for the Christians and is really realized. i'm in complete settlement with what he has stated the following. He and some different movie makers made a movie about how evolution isn't actual and they teach that God created the international. I had no doubt yet for the doubters the action picture is a artwork of artwork. extra power to Ben Stein. thanks for posting this textual content. God bless

Why does the fault lie with us? Atheists also say live and let live, do what you want to we don't care what you believe. I believe in my family, i believe in my friends, I believe in myself. I don't need to believe in a higher power to be satisfied. the first thing that comes up on dictionary.com for the word faith is: "confidence or trust in a person or thing"
faith doesn't have to mean religion. i have faith in love, i have faith in the one i love, but it has nothing to do with any God
in response to the details:
yes i agree that many do not have faith in themselves or in other people. but i personally do. i try to live my life with faith in everyone. i have faith that people are truly good. it is sad that many people have lost compassion in todays world. hopefully they can get it back, whether it is through their religion or not.

Here's a list of religions, listed as a percentage of the US federal prison population (1997):
The Federal Bureau of Prisons does have statistics on religious affiliations of inmates. The following are total number of inmates per religion category:
Response %
---------------------------- --------
Catholic 39.164%
Protestant 35.008%
Muslim 7.273%
American Indian 3.222%
Nation 2.320%
Rasta 1.987%
Jewish 1.773%
Church of Christ 1.744%
Pentecostal 1.463%
Moorish 1.426%
Buddhis 1.180%
Jehovah Witness 0.890%
Adventist 0.831%
Orthodox 0.502%
Mormon 0.399%
Scientology 0.254%
ATHEIST 0.209%
Hindu 0.159%
Santeria 0.157%
Sikh 0.019%
Bahai 0.012%
Krishna 0.009%
Hmmm... note that the Judeo-Christian Total works out to 83.761%. Not an unexpected result.
Note that ATHEISTS, being a moderate proportion of the USA population (about 8 - 16%) are disproportionately LESS in the prison populations (0.21%).
Pretty odd result, for a group that has no god-given guiding moral principals, huh?
