Religion is here to stay until the end of time... which isn't too far off.

Religion... Maybe, maybe not. Spiritualtiy though... that will definently remain.
Religion has definently given rise to many horrendous unforgivable events. It sets rules and says what is and is not allowed, and becuase it is written, there is too much room for misinterpretation that can lead to radical factions of any Religous Beliefe System.
War, Witch Hunts, Persecution... it will go on regarless though. It'll take another form. Think about Racism and Sexism... those aren't totally beliefe system fueled, and you can bet they will go on even if Faith in Religious Systems goes completely out the window.
I have a hard time seeing Religion disappear, however. It gives the normal people out there something to rule their lives by. People like having leaders, whetehr the leader is right or not, and Religious Systems are just taht- leaders, books and whatnot that point people in a given direction, and give them sets of diretions, on how to conduct themselves to be 'good'. While we can set these limits on our own, a good deal of people probably wouldn't if they didn't feel there was a real nee for it. Really, I think the big question is whether or not Religious Systems would survive without the Social Systems. I think without a society to enforce a good deal of the religious 'laws' ( commandments, redes, and whatnot), people wouldn't feel as compelled to follow religion, becasue alot of it would become optional, and not something to do to maintain a semblance of a good quality of life.

I believe religion will survive as long as the Spirit of God inspires people to do seek Him out. Every culture from the beginning of time has reached out for a higher being with sure knowledge that there was one. In today's culture doctors have found in their studies in nursing homes that the last memory to survive in an individual is their religious belief's. That shows how our most merciful God cares for us and calls us to Him to the very end of our lives.

evidently you know little if anything of the history of organized religions...why do you think the next generation will be any different from previous generations re rejecting religion? the mass media certainly is more effective in promulgating religious dissatisfaction and reporting crimes committed in the names of religion, but "religion is the opiate of the masses..." will continue to be true, in my opinion. the worse the times have been, the more people in general seem to need something ethereal to cling to for hope. Of course it is remotely possible, everyone will give up any semblance of hope and we will all commit suicide in one fell swoop.....not!

As long as man seeks for answers to the questions he can't answer, there will be religion. And as long as those questions have multiple answers, there will be "competing" religions, and violence commited in the name of religion.
The violence committed during the Crusades and the Inquisition has done nothing to discourage the violence we see in the name of religion today, why would today's causes be any different.

Yes, many wars have been fought over religion, this is not the first time in history.

KIND ATTENTION YAHOO! ANSWERS TEAM (URGENT)
I, accidentally, pressed the wrong button (I request Y/A team to please correct the mistake). I WANT TO RATE THIS QUESTION AS A GOOD QUESTION, though, the question is somewhat volatile, considering that we are living in very difficult and uncertain times. My apologies to the asker. Unfortunately, there are no tools, available to us, to correct inadvertent MISTAKES made on the action bar. I need not have owned up, but then, I would have a bad conscience. Also, the unintended and purely accidental (typo error) rating, is absolutely inconsistent, to my own profile.

Not at all. We will all be killed by religion. If you look at the actions of religious fanatics like Islamic (closet) Fundamentalist President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, you will soon see that we will all be reduced to a pile of rubble. Ironically, all in the name of a "Peacefull" God. They are islamic fundamentalists parading around as peaceful islamics... Yet they are enriching a huge amount of Uranium and building a heavy water (H30) plant that will enable them to make plutonium. HELLO, wake up world!!! These guys are planning to make plutonium which is not used for energy, it is solely used for powerful bombs. I may not live long enough to see the end of the human race, but newer genereations will.
When we are all dead... So will the notion of God.
