A fellow of mine has 2 daughters, one 13 the other 15 yo. She makes her daughters wear those frilly pinafores with straps that criss cross in the back and form a bow. Some days ago I went to her place and the girls were wearing them. They got kinda embarrassed. They told me this is their mom rule, they gotta wear them even when someone comes to the house. It's a kind of tradition there, though only the girls have to wear them all the time. Their mom wears sometimes.
The girls hate those pinafores and get really embarrased when someone outside their household sees them in those pinafores. They asked me to try to talk their mom out of that rule, tough they think this is impossible. Actually, I asked her to let the girls take them off cause they were embarrassed and got a sound NO WAY!. I told the girls it's not big deal, but they hate them. It's true they look kinda cute, sweet and feminine in those pinafores. Is it OK theit mom makes them wear? Does she have such right?

She may be able to control what her daughters wear now but just wait, she will have no control by the time they reach 17 or 18. This is not doing anything for a mother-daughter relationship. They will probably do just the opposite when the are old enough to leave home. What a mistake this mother is making. She sounds like a very controlling woman.

Pinafores are adorable! All young girls should wear them. Too many girls these days dress like boys.

At teen ages, I worry that Mom is trying to force them to stay as little girls and not the young women they are.

While most of us do not agree with her choice, she does have the right to decide how her children dress. At some point they will get old enough and mature enough to just refuse to put them on.

I would so no, she has no right, but she is their mother. If it were me with my kids I think I would ask their opinion. And I do do that with my own kids. After all it is their bodies. Hope I was of some help.

tell the mother this is the 21st century, not the first. get on with life and let her daughters have the freedom to choose.

Well, yes, she has the right. I personally don't agree with it, but she has the right.
