What do you consider Satan to be? I've heard concepts ranging from mean red guy with pitchfork to kind of an evil essence to Satan only being the evil that humans inflict on each other.

Satan doesn't exist... he's a construct of Christianity put in place to scare believers into doing as they're told.

There are five Cherubim(super angels) mentioned in the Bible. Four of them guard the throne of God, and Satan, who was the head Cherub(he now has a career problem). Being the most beautiful creature ever created, he thought he could become more powerful than God(Pride cometh before a fall). He revolted, and Michael the Arc Angel cast him and his followers, about a third of the angels, out of Heaven, to be damned for eternity in Hell. Between now and the time he's cast into Hell, Satan is trying to get all he can of God's most prized creation, mankind, to be cast into Hell also.

Satan is a fallen angel. He was actually an angel in the very presence of God who one day decided he was going to set himself up above the Most High. That was it on him, he was cast out of heaven, and a third of the angels even sided with him, and fell, as well.

He is now what is known the "ruler of this present evil world", the "prince of the power of the air", and of course, the Father of Lies. He's no one you want to give much interest to. He prowls around like a lion, seeking whom he may devour. His intention with regard to the human race is to steal, kill and destroy as many as he can.

Thankfully, Jesus Christ will return, and satan will be thrown into the lake of fire, in the (I hope) not-too-distant future.

a simple question. However people who have been writing into this site can't kept their demons and devils straight. they keep saying they are all the same being when if you read the bible. they are different entities assigned to the different levels of Hell to punish those that cannot follow the laws of the CREATOR.One level for the gluttonous another for liars. This what the Christian church has produced . under the saying of as above so below . they have made as many levels of Hell with different Devils ruling them as their are levels of Heaven.
AS for Satan its self The CREATOR OF ALL THINGS made Satan to be a tempter to try and lead souls that god made away from the appointed path and laws. Also as the Main tormentor and seducer of Jesus so that He would not complete the task assigned to him.
The description that you give is a made up version from different ideas from different religions. The horns and tail from the Pagan religion from a drawing of Cerronous a Earth god of the woodlands to them and the Goat head from the Knights Templar their depiction of Bohapmohept. The red to symbolize blood a Trident from the Greeks to represent his scepter and weapon of power.

satan spend his time.... frozen in a lake of ice in the ninth level of hell. he has three mouths... in one, judas, in the others, cassius and brutus. meanwhile... he's beating his six wings trying to escape... but the icy gusts of his wings only further freeze him there along with hell's greatest sufferers.
