My boyfriend who is in the military has recently been stationed overseas. He gave me his mailing address, but it dosen't seem to match up to where he says he is -- Baghdad. Being the curious meddler I am, I had to find out where this APO, AE is in that address. Can someone help me in my search?

The zip code, 09361 suggests that he's in the United Arab Emiates. Ok, so where is APO? @-@'

APO AE stands for Army Post Office, Army Europe. Granted he may be in the middle east, but it gives the military a place to send your mail. In 1990, I was at APO, AE 09309, which then directed my mail to be sent to the Army post office serving that area, and each time we moved, it was a new APO address, so as to keep the mail coming to the right place. In all truthfulness, the APO, AE is actually in New York somewhere, then the Army picks it up from there and ships it out to it's perspective APO's

APO stands for Army Post Office. The AE stands for Army Europe.

All mail sent to an APO AE address is sent to New York, where it is collected, seperated and forwarded, by the military, to where it needs to go.

APO AE is the Army Post Office in Europe, etc. Prior to the late 90's it was APO NY, since all the mail bound for European bases flew out of New York.

FPO is the Fleet Post Office for the Navy and Marines.

The sub-designators are as follow:

* AE (Armed Forces Europe / Africa / Southwest Asia / Middle East)
* AP (Armed Forces Pacific / Southeast Asia)
* AA (Armed Forces Americas)

APO is the military postal service> If my memory is correct it stands for Army Post Office ... the Navy uses FPO for Fleet Post Office. My son is in the navy and stationed in Italy ... He also has AE in his address.

All of the mail is collected at a central facility in the United States and forwarded to the nearby distribution center. So It is very possible that he is in Iraq with a UAE zip code. Iraq is a combat zone and probably does not have a central distribution center.

Send him a phone card that he can use to call you ... from the military sites calls back home are very cheap. The kicker is getting to the phones is not easy.

Trust him ... don't ever let him think that he is not trusted ... and loved. He has enough on his mind and does not need to doubt your trust, love and faith.

What they Said! When I was in Korea, my address was APO, AP for Pacific. Now I'm in Italy and its APO, AE for Europe. It just keeps your mail from costing more to ship to a foreign country, keeps US mail in US hands and makes it overall easier to do business. Pain in the butt for companies that don't ship to APO addresses though...
