Hi,
My cats don't like the enclosed litter boxes too much... When given the choice they go in the open litter box first and gladly...
I have 6 indoor cats and 3 litter boxes... So normally for your 2 cats one box is okay...
You scoop every day??... The problem is that the litter will get sticky with urine that is not really scoopable....
I count 2 cups of litter or so per day, no more.... and change the whole box every day... This takes less than 2 minutes to do... Much faster than changing a baby...lol...
If you want to do this good and fast.... simply add water to the whole full litter box in your bathroom, and flush it down the toilet... The water will prevent any possible clogg... and your litter box will be fresh every day... Of course you may still find a little litter around the box, but a little hand broom kept close will do the trick in 5 seconds...
If you change the litter every day, even the cheapest brand of litter will be fine... and you won't need to change their diets, or much deodorizers... You'll be saving time, frustrations, and you cats will be happy every day... They love clean litters...
Good Luck...

You should try using Arm and Hammer Ordor Absorbing Clumping Litter... it's the best. You won't even hardly smell the litter box. And very easy to clean, all the "stuff" clumps together for easy removal of just what needs to be removed. The litter lasts a lot longer than any other that I've tried. I love it! I actually have the litter box with a hood on top and I clean it daily and never smell it! Also, the hood helps keep the little pepples in the box instead of all over the floor.

I have an automatic litter box and also have a fairly short nap rug in front of it. Works pretty good for me (of course, my ex called me the Y2K version of Oscar Madison...i.e. a slob)
Try cleaning the box more often-and not just the litter. If the box gets smelly enough, the cats won't even use it-even with clean litter-they'll find another place to "go" and you won't like it. If your bathroom has a good ventilation fan, try putting the box in there (that's where I have mine)

I don't know, I've tried all of the stuff mentioned here. The charcoal, baking soda...the whole lot! I finally gave up and let my cat go outdoors. But then I am in an area where that is possible. No roads around where he can get injured, nothing that could hurt him as far as I can see. The only drawback is that no telling what he might eat (hunt). He is neutered and seems to like hanging out at home..but I might just be lucky.
Good luck!

I have 2 as well and an electic litter box..it's big and bulky and sticks out somewhat in the middle of the floor...BUT..It does the job for you! I put a cheap dollar store throw rug down and they still track..but i made room for a little stand that holds all the litter box stuff they need...baby wipes, litter, trashbags, arm and hammer litterbox deoderizer, plastic gloves for me and if you dont already have one...keep one of those little dustpans with the little attatchable hand broom near as well. Its all a labor of love and with all the junk and clutter my husband has in that little room i had to make space for my boys..if you dont they may decide to use it eleswhere..we dont have alot of space at all in a 2 bdroom duplex but i made room for the poop station!

I use a covered litter tray for my two cats, and put a big strip of carpet underneath and it helps keep their feet clean when they exit the box. I use the litter made from recycled wood pellets and it is very cheap and economical, as well as smelling fresh. The pellets expand as they get wet, and they soak up all the liquid and any odour. They also do not clump together and set like concrete, so the tray is easy to clean, no scraping involved.

Far and away the best option: Omega Paw self cleaning litter box along with scoopable litter with crystals.
It's clean, easy, and the box is relativly inexpensive compared to the auto cleaners (which don't work well)
I've had mine for 3+ years with many cats, and I've never had a problem.
You can get one at a bunch of pet retail outlets.

Try the new product, you have probably seen the commercial with the cat searching the Internet for his litter box and calling the hound dog to look for it ;)
I have two cats, and it works great--Fresh Step Odor Eliminating Carbon. Don't need an additional deodorizer.

I use crystals as well for my 3 cats. But they have access to outdoor anytime during in a day. I scoop their poo out as soon as I find or smell their business. I only feed them once per day in the evening.
It works out OK for me.
Have they desexed?

i have an electric littler maid. i love it. but since you don't have room...have you tried a closed litter box with a charcoal filter in the top? the charcoal really helps elliminate some of the ordor. i also like the clumping littler with crystals. the two combined really help my place smell better!
