If you ever tried to get money from the government in any form, there is always tons of red tape.

Ok, if you do believe it is religion, Why do you? How is it slowing down?
People, you can't scapegoat just because you don't agree with something without valid reasoning. I am curious to hear this reasoning. Thanks in advance for your answers.

EMBRYONIC stem cell research. Yes because it is immoral to destroy a human life for science.
It's a thing called morality and that we are all created with inalienable rights of LIFE, liberty and happiness. This includes humans at any and all stages of life. DNA proves that life begins at conception.
If you are talking about the other kinds of stem cell research such as cord blood, bone marrow, etc, then the answer would be that religion or morality are not holding back these kinds of research.
The ones who promote embryonic stem cell research are trying to get people to forget about the other kinds of stem cell research because of a political agenda.

While the private sector does give a lot, having the government fully back the subject wouldn't hurt.
The truth is it's a little of both.
It's the government holding back federal funding under the guise of religion because the republicans in charge want to stay in charge, and the only way to do that is to play the religion card on the majority of Americans.
Basically it's like them saying "We believe in God more than you do, so we're naturally the best candidates to lead the country."
When really, none of them give two ***** about religion. I mean, hell, look at Cheney. The guy shows up to the holocaust memorial thing a few years ago wearing a Philadelphia Eagles jacket. Yeah, real concerned jew right there.....
On the plus side, I was really surprised to hear that Schwartzanager (sp?) is donating so much money to the advancement of stem cells taking basically an opposition to Bush.

I don't really think anything is holding stem cell research back. It is going on every single day in the U.S.
The issue of harvesting fetuses is a different issue.
Stem cell research is being conducted using stem cells from umbilical cord blood, which is pure stem cells (even more than a fetus), and with stem cells that come from patient's own bodies. Most of the medical successes with stem cell treatment come from stem cells harvested from the patient's own body. That way there is no chance of rejection.
I'm all in favor of stem cell research. I'm very pro-life, on both ends of life.

The generic reference to stem cell research is misleading. Embryonic stem cell research it too controversial to get government funds. Doesn't mean its illegal to do the research. Embryonic stem cell research has produced zero positive results.
Adult stem cell research has had great positive results and is funded with your tax dollars. Why all the uproar about a worthless program? Stick to the stem cell research that is successful.

Religion is holding back embryonic stem cell research because religious fundamentalists who oppose abortion also oppose any use of the aborted foetal tissue.
The researchers can come up with their own funding.

i think its religion....i would think that there would be enough private funding and medical community funding (in hopes of finding something profitable) to get research fully funded
