My cat is licking at his stomach to the point of it being raw!!! Its the same area..he will let me message it but when i try and gently put medicine on the area he hisses. Ive tried everything and every ointment and gradual diet changes, two vets are stumped on what it could be. Ive pushed pills down his throat (steriods) and he's gotten steriod shots. I have stopped treating his belly with steriods cuz it's harmfull to him also he has constipation issues right now..is the licking from constipation or from an intestinal blockage..ive researched this forever and cant find anyone with the same problem! Im going broke trying to help my baby and i have given him varieties of stool softener...kitty laxatives, butter..ect. Any one with any advice..this is the first cat board that i have gotten any answers from at all...anybody have this same problem or ever heard of it..his little belly is raw!

Hi Stacey...I had to read your other questions to learn more about Pitty's chronic condition.

Has the vet's considered Megacolon? I am suspect if this is a possibility and have provided some websites below that discusses the disorder in detail. Every cat exhibits megacolon symptoms different than the textbook symptoms.

Do you live in a area where you could ask your vet to refer you to a feline-only vet care specialist? Additionally, Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine provides a consulting service (http://www.vet.cornell.edu/consultant/Consult.asp?Fun=Support&spc=&dxkw=&sxkw=&signs=) for families needing supplemental care assistance. Perhaps they can help you and your vet to better diagnose the disorder.

Please also consider reading through each of the following websites below to see if this somewhat describes what your kitty's is exhibiting?

Have your vet give your kitty x-rays on the kitties tummy, there maybe blockage in there not from stool softeners but from all the types of medications that you have given your kitty which may cause bleeding in the urinary track, liver failure or eating away on the kitties stomach lining. Do not hesitate taking kitty to the vet. Better to be safe then sorry. Look for blood when you cats takes a pee.& if he does it slowly.. these are the signs.

Hi.

He may actually have 2 ifferent problems.... Pulling hair or similar is a sign of fleas... Believe me... I've got 6.. tried sprays, power... some fleas are so small... One thing works for my cats and is always good to have anyway is a flea comb... Even the smalest flea will turn up... In your cat's case I woul say... do that first , then put some mineral oil on his stomach... This wont hurt him at all, and if he licks the oil, it will help him for his secon problem even as well... Mineral oil is your answer...cost almost nul... goo for many usage too...

Good Luck...

I hope your kitty gets well. I don't know what is wrong, but a little paraffin oil (sold for humans with constipation) will help, perhaps. Don't give it to him all the time, just for a couple of days to help him poo.
