How to neutralize incorrect handicaps in a 2 day golf tourney? A bunch of friends are going to have a Ryder Cup type event. The handicaps (most people don’t really know) came in and they are interesting. A lot of flagrant padding. Any ideas on format to counterbalance the handicaps?

Forgot to mention that it is an international event which includes the gallant, daring, sporting Americans with a couple Canadians vs. the cowardly, scum sucking, bandit Brits with their continental lackeys and an Australian or two (someone had to take them).

The three lowest scores after the first day get hcps adjusted down to the those scores for the second day. The three highest scores get adjusted up. Another way is to have a pre-tourney party and call each player's name. The rest of the players decide what that players hcp will be. Must be used for entire field. This works when the players don't know who will be on their team.

You can always make them play without a handicap. Now it's hard to put in a system that is fair and want penalize someone for playing good.. I ran some tournament that I used a 7 stroke rule. Someone plays 7 stork es better, I would check into the handicap, if it can't be proved I moved the player up a flight. USGA rule book says if you tee off playing to a higher handicap than you have it's a DQ

It's hard to get correct handicaps if your players are not SCGA (or wherever you are from) members. Besides making everyone play 20 rounds of tournament play or whatever it takes, the only way you are going to get any type of reasonable play is to cap the handicaps. Cap them real low, like 20, and give your players the choice of taking their high handicaps to the max cap. It still isnt going to stop single handicaps from sandbagging to 18, but it will stop your 18 handicaps from sandbagging to 25. Good luck.
