I am 5'7 1/2 or 8, 113 lbs. I workout in ballet for an hour and a half almost everyday. I've lost over 20 lbs. over the summer, and have really been concerned about my weight. I look at the ingredients of whatever I eat and refuse to eat it if it has a lot of calories and fat. I don't starve myself, I like to eat, but I get so obsessed with the idea of gaining weight because I am a ballerina. After I eat something I freak out if my weight has gone up at all. I think it is some sort of obsessive compulsion issue concerning my weight. What will in fact make you gain weight, and should I be worrying about it? Are these early signs of being anorexic? What should I do, and what is normal?

It's not really good to be obsessed about anything--including being obsessed about being obsessed about something!!

You probably have an unhealthy obsession with your weight. DOE NOT PANIC! :-)

First of all, try to relax about your weight. Weight fluctuates. Give yourself at least 5 lbs. leeway. You'll find that over time what you eat doesn't threaten that threshhold as long as you're working out regularly.

Second, do some research on eating disorders. These are disorders of the mind that arise from seemingly unrelated factors. The circumstances of your life may shed some light on your behavior, and in any case the mind is like a complex machine that takes some effort to understand.

Finally, pay close attention to your emotions. If you are experiencing fearful, judgmental, or otherwise negative emotions, the powerful energy of these will drive your behavior uncontrollably. Many people who share your experience can help you learn to accept yourself and focus on more positive feelings about yourself that will give you more freedom of choice about how to eat and make other choices in life.

I think you have hit the nail on the head by recognising your obsessive/compulsive behaviour. Have you suffered with OCD in the past or received treatment for it? Maybe it would be a good idea to seek some advice from a doctor, who could refer you to a therapist, before this situation escelates any further. OCD and Anorexia are related issues, so there is the possibility that this could become a potentially serious problem.

I'm glad that you are aware of these issues that need to be dealt with and I hope you can overcome them with the right help. Take care : )

I think you know the answer to this. You may not have all the signs of anorexia, but you are conscious of the fact that you're not eating properly. Step number one is always recognizing that you have a problem and then you have to do something to fix it. As someone who is physically fit you should worry about having a well balanced diet and exercising, and don't think about your weight.

See a psychiatrist and a nutritionist. It is normal to feel that if you eat almost ANYTHING, you might gain some weight and get fat, EVEN if you eat a light McDonald's cheesbuger!

GET HELP. Text book warning signs. You are very fortunate to be aware. If it continues you will rot your teeth, loose hair, break out......sooooo much worse... .
P.S. If you do not eat or take in important foods , your body will hold on to every little bit of food because it will be in survival mode this makes you gain weight . THIS IS TRUE. .
