I was raped 1 year and 3 months ago.I did not report it because I knew it would get out all over town.I live in a small town where everyone knows everyone. The person that raped me was a known "crack-head"I was ashamed and didn't want anyone to know.I have been going through hell ever since.I have been getting test done to be sure I did not catch anything from him.

What in the world will do with the answer for that question? I believe 90% of rape cases are not reported.

Nearly everyone knows someone that that happened to. She felt it was her fault for not being careful enough. It was date rape and it was not as commonly known to report it. Also that was a while ago and I think girls are better educated and will report it more times.

Never reported it. If it is someone in your immediate family it is hard to do- would you want your brother or father to go to jail? Hard to decide what to do in that situation, especially if you are a young kid like 9 years old- you think "What if nobody believes me? What if I never get to see my family again and they take me away? Will I have to live in a foster home and possibly end up being abused worse than before" it's very difficult.

Me because it was a policeman, and was easier just to get along with life, rather than wasting 3 years rehashing it in courts etc.
Would encourage anyone to report it, but only if they felt strong enough to go through the court process

To be honest I was raped when I was 15. I never told because I knew and still know it would have put my dad in prison for murdering the man who did it. I sought counseling on my own. I learned who to live with it and move on.

Yes, I do. I actually know a couple of people in this situation. One of them feels ashamed, and the other just doesn't want to relive it any more than necessary. I just wish I could do more, and that it was legal to torture and slowly murder a rapist, cos if that were the case, it'd be two down, and countless more to go.

i know someone was raped but never reported it because of fear they would be ridiculed and made fun of or the fact that no one would believe them or embarassment or fear of how they would be looked at

Everyone knows someone who has been raped but doesn't tell anyone about it... usually the girl blames herself... her inability to trust and low self-esteem make it hard..

yes, and it comes from fear. Fear of what others will think, that she is to blame, that will be no conviction and she will look as if she cried wolf, ridicule, there are many reasons that only the victim can say for sure.
