I understand why you're confused. When a Christian tells you that you must accept Jesus into your heart what you are really being asked to do is to acknowledge and accept the sacrifice He made for you when he died on the cross. God sent his son, Jesus, to earth to live as a man, not a Deity, and to learn about us and the challenges and temptations that we faced. Jesus was without sin, having been born of immaculate conception, and thus was the unblemished lamb required as sacrifice for the sins of mankind. A lot of the time when someone tries to witness to you about the saving grace of God and Jesus Christ, people get hung up on the words or rhetoric. What you simply want to do is talk to God and tell him that you accept the sacrifice of his son Jesus Christ as payment for your sins and you wish for him to strengthen your heart, mind and soul to do His works, and you offer all that you are and will ever be to be used for his Glory. God/Jesus/Holy Spirit are three facets of a whole. Keep asking questions and learning. You're on the right track.

You have serious theological errors probably due to not knowing what the Scriptures say......
Jesus gave them this answer: "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. -John 5:19
So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am the one I claim to be and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me. John 8:28
I and the Father are one. -John 10:30
Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. -John 14:6
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. -Matthew 28:18
Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son -John 5:22
Jesus cannot be "weaker" than God if they are one. They do not have competing goals; Jesus is in complete submission to the Father. BUT the Father has also entrusted judgment to the son so he decides whether you get saved or not, whether you followed him or not.
Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. -Luke 9:23

The desired objective here is to attain the standard of love for God, this elevated position of God consciousness can only be achieved via the acceptance of a bona-fide representative of the Supreme.
Depending upon time and circumstances, sometimes God incarnates in this world himself and sometimes he sends his son or representative, who are accepted as being as good as God, because they are delivering the unadulterated message of love for God.
When God appears in the material world, he says "Love me" and when his son or representative appears he says "Love my Father", so the message is the same.
So when anyone is attempting to become expert in any subject or field of expertise, they must approach someone who is qualified to teach that knowledge, which they are trying to acquire, in this case it is God consciousness, so to attain God consciousness you must approach a spiritual master who is the bona-fide representative of God.
The problem with some evolved teachings are that they have been watered down and altered so much that they do not make any practical sense as to there validity, simply accepting something or someone without actually doing anything for example, may be an easy way to create a self delusional condition of false piety that leads ultimately to a dead end, whilst falsely claiming exclusive rights to salvation, which creates a sectarean view making some institutions wealthy in the process.
So each individual has to make their own choice as to what is what, if you would like to discuss this further :-Sriman Sankarshan Das Adhikari (sda@backtohome.com)

Another poster has already given you John 14:6, where Jesus said He was the only way to the Father. But also remember, in the Garden of Gethsemene, Jesus prayed that if there was any way for the "cup" to be taken from Him, that God would do it. In other words, God would never have allowed His son that horrid death on a cross if there was any way for us to be cleansed of our sins, than by His blood.
There wasn't any way, there isn't any other way. Only faith in Jesus saves anyone.

This is the best way I've had Jesus/God thing described to me:
It is exactly like a person...
We'll use a woman as an example. She can go by "wife", "mom", "sister", whatever, but she is still the same thing no matter what you call her!
...And if you could get into Heaven simply by believing but not doing good, then killers who happen to believe in God would be granted Heaven.

It is God you worship, in spirit and in truth. And Jesus or Christ's teachings are always pointing to God. He points to himself only as a teacher. Heaven and hell is a way of life. God is a God of the living, not of the dead. And if you lived out of Gods spirit, your deeds will live on here on earth.

Who says you CAN'T get into heaven just by believing in God?
Furthermore, which loving parent, who loves their child with all of their hearts and their being, would deprive their beloved child of an eternity of joy simply because the small one did not "believe in them"? Perhaps the dear child is too young to understand what this means. Perhaps WE are too young to fully understand our relationship to the Creator...Perhaps WE are too spiritually young to understand what questions to ask!....And how much more generous and loving would the Creator of the universe be than we can imagine?...
Who says you CAN'T get into heaven just by believing in God? Someone whose perception of God may be questionable.
Best wishes in your search!

I would love to know why so many people are worrying about getting into heaven. Is it not more important to live the life we have now. All this talk of death, heaven and hell is very depressing.

It takes more than believing God to get into heaven. You must live holy life like God intended us all to do. The main reason we were put here on earth is to fellowship with God through prayer, teaching others about him, and living a holy life.
