I see some cops that are so fat that they can't breathe and I would hate to know that I may have to depend on him one day to save my life.

I do agree, cops should stay physically fit. Unfortunately, nobody is 25 forever.

Someone's courage is not defined by their weight. I have seen cops that you might think are fast, and tough. However, when the rubber meets the road..... I don't want them coming to save my bacon. I want somebody who will come to fight.

I have seen some big-boys who will clean your clock if you pick a fight with them. The bottom line is that cops must stay healthy not just for your sake, but for their own sake.

Makes me ask your self each in certain situations too. maximum folk who're suspects can run quickly. So this is contained in the cop's brilliant interest to dodge an walking pursuit. yet there are the law enforcement officials who workout habitual. i imagine 1/2 of them are on a SWAT crew even with the undeniable fact that.

A "fat" officer would simply pick up the radio and watch where you are going and report that to the rest of the police.

They can not shoot you while you are fleeing unless you are armed and they think you present a danger to the public.

Most departments for not have fitness requirements for established officers except for the SWAT teams. They normally do.

I never understood that either. I know they drive around alot but there has to be times when they might have to run and catch somebody. I know for a fact my 3 yr old could probably run faster than some I've seen.
Arent they supposed to meet physical requirements? Like being able to run X far in X amount of time?

I'll tell you what my father did once when he was chasing a certain repeat juvenile offender.

My dad was pretty fast for a guy with a belly, and not many could outrun him. Believe me, I tried. Anyway, this kid was wiry, and he hopped a few fences and got away.

When the kid got home about 30 minutes later, guess who was sitting in the kitchen having coffee with his mom?

Yep, my dad. : )

As far as saving lives, he did plenty of that too. Some of my friends were witness to it, and one neighbor's grandchild was given CPR by my dad. Not so bad, eh? Don't be so quick to judge the "porky" pigs. LOL

I have seen BIG cops that are as tough as nails. If they run from them they have the legal right to shoot them. Most of them can run faster than you would think or have other skill such as not let it get to the point where they have to run. And back up is a plus, most of the time when they run they get caught eventually.

Some of the porky ones are pretty spry. Look at sipowitz from NYPD Blue. I don't know about chasing them down, but he could really pummel those guys into a confession.

I am by no means condoning overweight cops, but you have to look at it like this. You might outrun one or two officers, but you will not outrun a radio.

We'll, they would run as fast as they could. you'd be surprised how slow the other guys are! Also, they could call for back up and scent dogs.... that usually works the magic!

i don't condone the weight problems though.

A fat cop can draw his revolver extremely fast--don't under estimate them!
