Well being a life long sleep walker myself It would probably scare the daylights, well the nightlights out of me if someone woke me up while I was sleep walking. It's odd enough to wake up in the shower, out on the balcony, or any of the countless weird places I've found myself!!!!!

I wouldn't say it's inherently dangerous, but it is risky depending on how you try to awaken them. The sleepwalker may be experiencing a dream that could result in a misinterpretation of the stimulus of your attempts to wake them. Most dreamers won't actually strike out or otherwise physically act out their dream scenario, and waking may only take a moment or two, anyway, but in the confusion or disorientation of waking they may experience sudden anxiety or panic and react inappropriately. In young children it could be somewhat traumatic, whereas for older or infirm individuals it could be inordinately stressful.

Often a sleepwalker can be redirected simply by speaking to them and telling them to return to bed or that they are dreaming or sleepwalking.

It's not...

"A common myth surrounding this disorder is that one should never wake sleepwalkers while they are engaged in the activity. In truth, there is no implicit danger in waking sleepwalkers, though the subjects may be disoriented or embarrassed when awakened."

BECAUSE THEY ARE COMPLETELY DISORIENTED AND ONLY SEMI CONSCIOUS....WILL BE STARTLED AND FRIGHTENED AND DEFENSIVE TOWARD YOU....YOU HAVE TO CALMLY TURN THEM BACK TOWARD BED WITHOUT WAKING THEM AND KEEP YOUR VOICE SOFT.....IF NOT THEY CRY AND CAN BECOME HYSTERICAL.
