Babies is a plural ...there are many babies in the nursery. Baby's is ownership and speaks of one baby...the baby's crib had clean blankets in it. Same goes for Ladies. Ladies is plural. The ladies are going to the bar to see the male strippers. Lady's again in ownership sense, one lady....The Lady's clothing was old and tattered. Hope that makes sense.

babies and ladies are plural...meaning more than one
for instance... All three of the babies had bottles.
or...The ladies sat down at the table and began to chat.
baby's and lady's are posessive...meaning they own something that you are talking about
for instance... The baby's bottle was empty.
or ... The lady's dress was red.
Hope this helps!

I agree w/ Dukalink. Any word w/ "ies" is plural, more than one. If it's 's, it means something is singular and posessive.
