a lot of times, people get a break on their house when they buy if it is in an area that needs to be restored. My husband and I were looking in L.A. for a house and they were offering great discounts on the purchace of homes in 'bad' neighborhoods. They wanted to get owners back in the neighborhood, rather than renters.

I live in a house built in 1908 so let me know if you find a grant so i can stop taking out loans for remodeling and repairs. I am sure the guy has some equity in the home, borrow against it like everyone else. Let me guess you get the house when he dies?

You should be able to. But go to the National Trust website, you should be able to get some info. there. I did some work at President Lincoln's cottage(I do a lot a preservation work) and some of my work is featured there. Peace,Y.
