The mormons as a whole accepted polygamy for a long time. They deny this to avoid any legal problems.
Warren Jeffs was from a fringe group of Mormons based primarily in Utah and Arizona.

HUGE differences! Warren Jeffs is the leader of the religion group FLDS or Fundamental Latter Day Saints. These are people who used to be Mormon, but chose to only follow some of our beliefs and continue polygamy. Polygamy is not condoned in the Mormon church and is illegal.
The LDS or Mormon Church's current prophet is President Gordon B. Hinkley.
Some major differences: we do not give money to our prophet so that he can drive an escalade as Warren Jeff's did... taking all of their money. We dress normally where as some FLDS folks dress like Quakers. And Warren Jeff's is nuts!

No. The Church of Ladder day Saints do not accept Warren Jeffs as a prophet. There probably are vast differences between his cult and the Mormon cult as you put it. These cults are the result of the Church of Ladder Day Saints being a chamelion and changing all the time, which conservative members disagreed with and split off. I don't know much about the polygamy, but it sounds like there are good reasons for it, based on thier teachings, and based on thier history. Mormonism is focused alot on reproduction.

Do a little more research I would suggest, first.
Warren Jeffs is the leader of the FLDS, not the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, nor was he ever a member. They are not the same church and FLDS are not "mormons", if they were they would be excommunicated for their illegal practices.
There are many differences between the two. Read on wikipedia on both, I have found it is the most neutral, and you will be able to see the differences.
Gordon B. Hinkley is the prophet at this time of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I thought the Mormons' prophet was Joseph Smith. I think the official Mormons (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) disavow and distancce themselves from the practices of those like Warren Jeffs.

Gorden B Hinkley is the prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. So he is the TRUE prophet of the "mormons". There are so many differences between our churches, but i'm not quite sure what they are. The LDS church doesn't practice polygamy; the other ones do.

The LDS church the true church of the Mormons does not support Polygamy. It was only done at first because of the deaths of so many men leaving so many women without husbands when they traveled to Utah according to what I was taught when I was a practising Mormon. This man was totally not in agreement with any sane or legitimate sect of Mormons I have ever heard of as they engaged in child abuse and child sexual abuse.

The Bible. using fact the questioner seems to allude, Catholicism believes that the Pope has the authority to supersede even the particular textual content fabric of the Holy Scriptures. in addition, Mormonism rejects the thought the Bible is the main suitable authority of non secular concerns, finding instead to post-biblical writings via a chain of so-referred to as cutting-element "prophets". Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the Bible is the infallible inspired observe of God, and that none can contradict it. at circumstances, the critics of Jehovah's Witnesses have pretended that they develop their human guides above the Bible, yet it is only not real. if certainty learn that the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses many times reminds its adherents that the Bible is uniquely infallible and inspired, and could't be contradicted via any guy (including those taking the lead between Jehovah's Witnesses).

If you have ever read the Bible a true prophet is a person that has talked with God, you can not pass that on to other people.
