You can use the teabag from a cup of tea. Put the teabag on the area where it hurts. You can also try clove oil. Take some extra strength Tylenols. But if you have an abcess, there's no getting around it-----you'll have to see a dentist. Abcesses are very painful and don't go away on their own.

Nothing, your depending on your immune system at the moment to keep an infection controlled. Your immune cells are fighting the infection and dying at the point of infection and creating the puss that forms an abscess. An infection and wound left untreated can lead to a blood born infection and necrotic(dead) tissue.
Two things will happen. Either you get to a dentist and he can safely drain the abscess and stop it or you will go through a whole lot of pain and eventually the abscess will burst and you have infection and puss in an uncontrolled wound.
Better to see a dentist and have it drained and the dentist if he uses a root canal to drain the abscess place an antibiotic at the bottom of the root canal close to the infected site or prescribe an antibiotic to kill the infection and eliminate the abscess.
The dentist might even have to remove a tooth to stop the problem happening again. I have had two abscesses from an infection getting into the same tooth.
SEE A DENTIST, DOCTOR,HOSPITAL and get it treated before it becomes disfiguring and/or life threatening.

I'm a dentist.
WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! All of you are wrong!
Especially you, SoulDoctor. You're a stupid SOB for peddling that absolute nonsense. Didn't you ever wonder why they don't give you "homeopath" morons DEA licenses?
Now, on to the question, at hand:
The answer is "nothing". The source of the abscess needs to be treated, and if there is any pus to be drained, it must be drained. Otherwise, the infection can progress to the point where it either constricts your airway or where you become septic.
I've seen both of these situations. An appointment with your dentist may potentially save you the agony of a miserable hospital stay and surgery.

where are you? in the cities i would try a free clinic... try calling 211 - it is the helpline phone number and they should be able to get you to the right program or place to get a free prescription - after that i would try wal*mart to get the med - they have that 30day supply for $4 and i would call to see if what you are scripted fits, some of the sliding scale doc's have free samples as well don't mess with this - an infection in the mouth can move to the brain and cause death - is that worth saving $20 bucks?

Until you see the dentist, to reduce pain, you can rinse with a solution of table salt and warm water, 1 teaspoon to a glass. Or, place a used tea bag on the gum line. Neither of these remedies will heal but they should provide temporary pain relief.

get some Penicillin or Amoxicillin...you need about 21 or a 7 day supply take one tablet three times daily for a week and it should subside it will also make the pain go away...trust me had it before and can't afford the dentist either...trust me I'd rather go to the dentist myself

You could do nothing (NOT recommended)
You could drain it yourself (NOT recommended)
You could go to your own doctor and get antibiotics
You could take pain relief
If you go to a dentist, some will not do any drainage procedures until you have tried antibiotics anyway.
OMG
Or you could try the homeopathic remedy. That'd be just like doing nothing.
