spread the injection throughout the muscle but it hurt like hell each time he tapped. Is this appropriate and is it common??

never heard of that.......ask your pharmacist or do a search on the net by typing in the name of the injection in a search engine.

First of all, I have a few questions. Was there a nurse in the room with the doctor and was the doctor a female or male?
Some types of medicine are thick and need to be distribuited in order for the muscle not to hurt later. But I beileve that if it was necessary to tap or spank your bottom, he/she should have told you before giving the shot, then you would have been informed. You may want to talk to someone about this issue.

Sounds very innappropriate to this old man. Hope that he had a nurse in the room at the same time as you were there. If he was spanking you though I would doubt it. You could report him to the licencing board or just remember it next time that you go back. Don't know what the doctor situation is like where you live but if you can get another doctor to care for you then I'd suggest relocating your files.

if the injection is muscular in type, spanking your butt is necessary unless u want the doctor to massage it ;).. u see some vaccines (like DPT shots for babies) are real thick and the only way is massage the area so it can be evenly distributed, otherwise it will lump under the skin and cause severe skin irritation...

A number of years ago I had to have multiple penicillin shots in the butt, and the nurse (female--I'm male) who injected me lightly slapped my bottom area near the injection site several times before the injection. It wasn't painful, and it was done to make the shots hurt less (I had to have four of them.)
It could be a legitimate practice, but it sounds like he got it (please excuse the pun) *** backwards, and should have done the spanking before the shot.

Yes, it is possible, if you are slightly overweight, he might have to do this in order to get the medication into your system. Otherwise, it just stays in the fatty tissue and wont do any good. Or maybe your Doctor just likes to spank you.

Depends on what kind of medication did he applied. Sometimes this must be done in order for the medication to flow faster in the bloodstream.
