When I feel the outside of my jaw...on the outside of my mouth, i feel this hard bump there. I don't know how else to explain it. Could it be a root I'm feeling?

You absolutely need to see your family doctor. If you don't have one, ask a friend who they use. And see if you can get in to see them. But, please do not wait. O.K. Any time something is not a normal thing, please go to the doctor. You are the only one that can take care of yourself. Please go. Good Luck and God Bless you.

I have that too. Except its my front tooth on my bottom jaw. When I smile it looks normal but once past the gum it goes diagonal and sticks out. Its this long hard bump and feels just like my tooth except there is gum over it. My dentist was confused by this but im getting it fixed; It just has to be straitened out. Just go to the dentist. It sounds like the same thing I have. He will fix it up and then you wont have to worry about it. And dont worry its nothing serious like having it pulled or surgery. So just relax and make an appointment with your dentist.
P.S. - dont push on it really hard trying to move it back or anything. That could break some of the roots and make your tooth a little dull looking. So just leave it alone for now.

I'm a dentist.

No. You cannot feel the roots of your molars.

You really should have that bump evaluated. I cannot begin to make an accurate diagnosis of the problem examining you directly and taking appropriate radiographs. To be sure, most of the people here probably don't even have college degrees, let alone doctoral degrees in health professions.

Make an appointment with your dentist and get it evaluated.

You my dear need a root canal, it sounds like to me. That lump/bump is an infection. You need to get it checked out in case that is the problem if it is and you don't get on it, it could cause you to loose the tooth.
