genetics. I have 2 brothers whose hairlines started to recede around age 18. For some men, it doesn't start until later.

Just the top left side? That is unusual. Probably it is just male pattern baldness that is starting faster on one side. But see a doctor if you are worried.

Have you ever used steroids?
There is a number of medical conditions that can cause it too.
Even something as simple as the a reaction to your shampoo or washing your hair too often/not enough.
If its receding in an irregular or noticeably 'unbalanced' pattern, my first guess would be a fungus, or skin condition. try shampooing with rubbing alcohol before using your regular shampoo.

Hereditary, my dad and 2 brothers are going bald. My mom, another brother and I have a full thick head of hair.

Could be a fungus,
Could be alopecia areata
Could be hypothyroidism
Have a dermatologist take a look

I've seen kids in high school going bald.........It's just heredity.......The man can shave his head if he likes, women LOVE that.........Take care...........
