I don't get allergic reactions to poison ivy, sorry ;-) It has to do with your immune system, I would imagine, though I haven't encountered one... that there are a few dogs out there who will present a reaction to poison ivy. Like all allergic reactions, it is your immune system going overboard on what it sees as a threat... most dog's bodies don't see poison ivy as a threat, and most human's bodies do.

The oils from the poison ivy usually stay on the dogs fur and never actually touch their skin. In the event it does get down to their skin they can have a reaction to it just like people do.

Dogs fur usually protects them from the poison ivy, but they can carry it home to you and when you pet them you can catch it from their fur.

Actually your dog can. Mine had it-It was terrible on my weimaraner cuz she has hardly any fur on her tummy and that's where she got it. It took about 2 weeks for it to clear up.
