Most drug stores and camera stores will print digital pictures. The usual price is 29 cents a picture but some drugstores print them for as little as 19 cents each.
If you take al lot of picture you are better off buying a cheap picture printer.
The advantage of digital cameras is that you don't have to pay for pictures that don't come out or that you don't want

in my view the problem is not so much the picture printers, which are fairly cheap. It is the very high cost of the photo paper - often even if you make no errors whatsoever, it costs you more, per print, if you print at home, than if you give this to a shop. Which is why all those guys want you to buy them printers, knowing that you'll hen spend a lot on paper...

In my experience the cheapest way, assuming you have a decent internet connection, is to develop on line, i.e. one of those sites where you upload your photos to be printed, and they send them to you by (paper) mail. The prints are produced in large professional labs, and the price will be a good deal lower than going to a nearby professional shop.

What is available depends a lot on where you live, so I'm afraid I can only suggest that you experiment a bit, for example by having the same series of, say, 10 shots, developed by 2 or 3 different labs.

Hope this helps

Scanning is really the best way to get decent quality digital images of prints. I don't care how good the set up is, simply taking a photo of your print will greatly diminish it's quality. EDIT: Unless there was something seriously wrong with the scanner or your settings, there is no way that the scanned image was of lower quality than a photo of that image. Your camera may be 10 MP, but you cannot create extra pixels in a printed photo(it is what it is) by taking a photo of it with another camera. I put together photo montages set to music. It would be much, much faster for me to take take photos of the prints rather than scanning them one at a time, but at the sacrifice of quality. I have 2 10 MP cameras (a Sony and a Canon) and a $99.00 scanner. Scanning is definitely the way to go, you may just have not used the right settings.

In addition to the suggestions mentioned above, you can use an on-line service, such as Shutterfly, to buy prints of your pictures. They are reasonably priced and they produce good quality prints. One good thing about Shutterfly (and perhaps others) is that you can send your friends a link to your on-line album and if they really want prints, THEY can order them and PAY for them. Often, people will say that they really want a print. And another. And a few more, while you're at it, and then they put the prints in a drawer and never see them again. This way, you are not out the money and they can actually get just the prints they want. I am pretty sure that you can restrict their access to just preselected photos.

The most cost effective way, is to have the pictures printed professionally at a photo place. I have been using digital for years and I've printed maybe 12 shots ;) The great thing about the digital shot is that you can share it with people without priting it

Most all digital cameras have several ways to "get the prints". They use both a direct USB connection to your computer or a card reader (which may be built in your computer) which also uses an USB hook-up to your computer. However, it is even cheaper some times to just go to your local Rite-Aid. They (most of them) have a machine that can crank out 4x6 prints (edited as you may wish, cropped, rotated, etc.) for $ 0.29 a print.

You get a memory card for the camera and you can take the memory card to walmart, target, or any store that has a photo center and have them printed... which I personally find to be a pain if you have a lot of pictures. You can also upload your pictures to a site (like walmart) and they will print them up and mail them to you... but its not really cheap either way

I don't know where you live but most drug stores, K-Mart, Walmart etc. will make prints for you at a very reasonable cost. (some as low as .09 for a 4x6 color print. Check around for the best price. There are also email print services where you email the pics and the send the prints to you in regular mail.
