I was waiting at a red light. There's two cars in front of me. The jerk directly in front of me starts slowly backing up. I look around - I don't see anyone trying to cut in front of him or any reason for him to be backing up. Then he collides with my car (at about 1mph)... his rear bumper is resting in my frikking license plate!
The light goes green, and we drive up to the next light. I wanted to change lanes but there were just too many cars. Anyways, at that next light, he does the same frikking BS only this time I left even more space than normal between my car and his.
He was hispanic, if that matters.

So, what the hell do you think this was about? Harassing a single girl? Insurance fraud? Racism?

It's sounds like an old scam.

One way to be sure is to have your insurance company investigate his history. If he makes a habit of this maybe you can nail him for insurance fraud.

Although if he isn't making a claim against you he may have his own twisted motives.

Were his backup lighhts on? If not, it is just possible he wasn't trying anything and was just an idiot. You see, in manual (or stick shift) cars, you release the gear at traffic lights and put your foot on the brake. If your foot slips off, gets tired, or lets up a little, it is possible to roll, either forward or backward according to the tilt of the roadway. The 1 mph sounds like this.

I hope all was fine with your car (i.e., no damage, etc.) and would dearly love you to report him to the police via his license plate number, so if he WAS just an idiot, they talk to him about how to avoid this in the future.

Glad you are fine.

Sometimes people will do this and then accuse you of rear-ending them. Perhaps this person was a wannabe insurance scammer who was just practicing. This thing is more common than you might think.

I've heard of this kind of a scam happening before, but I forget what it's called. All I remember about this is that it is a type of an insurance scam, but that's all I know about it.

Don't flatter yourself. He's probably just an idiot.

possibly because the person behind usually gets blamed for accidents--because why would someone go backwards at an intersection? Sucks though.. I hope nothing came of it
