You will have a 50% higher chance of at least some of the pups having genetic defects..
both of your pups have the same genes..some recessive, and some dominant..when you breed siblings, you are doubling the chance that the defective recessive genes will show up..

If you breed a brother and sister together you risk duplication of any negative traits such as allergies and the like in the puppies.
If they have bred you can take the female to the vet and get a shot called ReguMate and it will cause her to miscarry. Then you need to spay her and neuter him or keep them separate.
If they are registered dogs you can't register the puppies from a brother/sister breeding.
You might not have a retarded dog but you might end up with puppies that are deformed or super allergic or super sensitive. Since purebreds in the US tend to be inbred as it is already you might have some serious negative outcomes.

Hi I'll try to make this simple. Breeding siblings will generally bring out the best genetic traits, and the worst genetic traits in the offspring. This type of breeding should only be attempted by experienced breeders who have done much research, and all available testing, to ensure the best outcome. These breeders are very selective in their lines, and only do this to better the breed. For those attempting this because they simply have a male & female dog, the results can be disastrous. This is particularily true for brother & sister, since the genes are so closely matched. It is almost without exception that any responsible breeder would use brother & sister, unless trying to save a species that is almost extinct.

Please ! There is absolutely no reason for in-breeding animals these days ! You don't think Chihuahuas always shook like that and had eyes quite like that, do you? Of course not. In-bred dogs are prone to all kinds of painful, expensive and even deadly problems. In-breeding is why German Shepherds and some other large dogs get hip diseases, eye problems, and much shorter life spans. Please do your pets and yourself a favor. If you must breed the dogs, find another person, a breeder, who knows what is best for the breed. Best yet, why not have them spayed and neutered, many shelters will do it free or very cheaply. It really is the right thing to do for your dogs. Good Luck ! Thom

If dogs can get human illnesses then breeding a brother and sister would not be a good idea. They puppies would be born with defects and even worse they could extra apendages.

Well for one who ever told you that lied to you because yes they can end up retarded or deformed. Yo can breed them but why take that chance then you would have to kill the puppy because you decided to put brother and sister together. Its wrong and should not be done.... Please save a puppies life and don't breed them...

it can be done in the hands of experienced breeders who know their dogs and those dogs parents faults an virtues.remember doubling genes brings out all the good an all the bad hiding behind them. This breed is prone to collapsing trachea's,low blood sugar and subluxating patellas.Id talk to the breeder you got the dogs from and inquire whats behind them.Remember, you are responsible for any puppies you sell and may be sued for vet bills and a replacement dog from other lines.I would think long and hard before breeding.PS...Most Chihuahua's end up needing c-sections so keep a couple thousand dollars around if she does.Good luck

Absolutely not!! No one except experienced breeds should ever attempt an inbreeding. You need to have a sound knowledge of genetics as well as know the dogs' pedigrees thoroughly for 3 generations back. They won't be retarded but any faults that are in the line, especially recessive ones, will come out in the pups.

Absolutely not. The puppies and their puppies will be unhealthy in the long run. What you need do is get both of them fixed; there are many many too many unwanted puppies, please don't make some more.
No responsible breeder would breed first degree relatives, so don't you either.

Well first off its best to wait until she has had her second heat and is at least a year old. I would not suggest breeding them together! Growing up we had abunch of barn cats that would inbreed and the kittens would come out without butt holes and a little "off"....I would suggest just finding a breeding male and the owner of the male would get the pick of the litter.
