Columbus arrived in the Western Hemisphere with 3 ships. His voyage of discovery was daring and valiant. When he went back to Spain and told Ferdinand and Isabella, they were excited.
All of Europe found the Western Hemisphere because of the daring voyage of Columbus.
The resources of the Western Hemisphere enriched Europe and helped to create the Industrial Revolution.
Today the European Nation called the United States of America has the highest standard of living ever achieved by any nation. Something to be very proud of.

Because under popular belief, Columbus founded the Americas however, we shouldn't be celebrating it because he and his men were brutal to the Natives.

Columbus is creditted with first landing on the Americas. When in reality he landed somewhere in the Caribbean Sea. Hispanola I think. Since he is still credited with "finding" America we show tribute to him.
