My bf of 4 years refuses to buy me jewelery. It kinda irked me but i let it go because i figured if he wanted to buy me jewelery he would do it because he really wanted to. Last weekend i found out the real reason behind it. He bought his ex a piece of jewelery worth $250. they were dating for 4 months and they split two months later; becuase of that he refuses to buy any girlfriend jewerly unless it's an it's an engagement ring (he even bitches about that).

Am i just being to materialistic ? it wasn't a big deal until i found out the real reason behind it.

Even if that's his reason, you need to respect it. He'll get you something when he decides to.

Do you get the feeling he's thinking... he doesn't want to buy you something because you might leave and waste his money? You shouldn't worry about it too much. He just learnt from his mistakes and I'm pretty sure later on, he will realise how special you are to stay with him for that long and get you something really good and you will know that he truely loves you because he bought you jewellery, which he refuses to do to girls that will leave him.

You are a bit materialistic, otherwise you wouldn't be worrying about if he buys you something or not. A lot of people are like that so don't worry.

well, I don't blame you for feeling upset about it, but I wouldn't be hurt by his actions. Now you know that he truly and utterly loves you when he buys you that engagement ring. I wouldn't worry too much because he knows he shouldn't have jumped the gun and bought his ex that jewelry, but he did, and now he just wants to make sure he doesn't do that again. Imagine how special it will be when you actually get that ring. It wil be sweet and romantic, and truly meaningful.

So, what I'm trying to say is no, you're not materialistic!

I think his experience says that buying expensive stuff doesn't assure to have a loyal gf, so why bother?
