The Supreme Court holds that they are allowed to lie, so why shouldn't anyone be allowed to?

What do you expect?
"Yes, I have a half kilo of substrate under the seat that I'm going to synthesize X___K out of tomorrow night at my friend Danny <_____>'s house tomorrow night, using equipment stolen from (__) PD's forensic lab."

Then that brings up the issue of when an "investigation" begins. If you make a traffic stop for weaving, is that an investigation?

Well, the real truth is that we don't really care about your lying to us. The indignant part and the fit throwing is all an act to help us get your confession to what you really did. In other words, it is all a lie too.
Seriously, we get indignant for the same reason you get indignant when you are lied to. No one like being lied to, and when we are told a lie that we know is a lie, it makes us (or you) think that the person who is lying believes we are stupid. It is the same reason anyone gets upset at being lied to.
Just so you know, lying to a police officer can be a crime depending where you are and which cop it is.
In Texas, it is illegal to lie to any police officer about any investigation he is conducting. The link below will show you the actual law saying so.

Here we go. If you intentionally lie to an officer that is investigating a crime then you are giving a false statement which technically is illegal. The lie itself is not illegal, the fact that you are interfering with the investigation is.
On another note: When you lie to a police officer and they know you are lieing you are insulting their inteligence which naturally just pisses them off.
Police are allowed to lie in certain instances, not all. If they are undercover they can lie all they want so long as they are not breaking the law. They are playing a role to enforce the law.
Probably not the answer you wanted but I hope it helps.

It is primarily because policemen are the law. They are hired on to protect the good, the bad, and the in between. When some little shitstick starts lying about god only knows what for god only knows why, then it just plain pisses them off. As it was stated earlier, lying also insults the hell out of everyone's intelligence. The officer starts to believe that the little scuzz they are talking to thinks either the officer is that stupid or that he himself is that smart, which we all know is just about impossible (I repeat, JUST ABOUT, because there are some dumb cops and some brilliant criminals, as much as I hate to admit that). As far as lying goes, lying can actually be a crime depending on what you are lying about. If you lie about anything used to determine your identity, then it is Giving False Information, which is an arrestable offense in AL. If you lie about an investigation that is being conducted, then you are Obstructing Governmental Operations, which is also an arrestable offense in AL.

Yea I think if a cop lies to you just to get info out of you, you should be able to lie to them too. I would much rather it be illegal for either to lie to each other though. I had a cop lie to me once about a seat belt ticket, couldnt argue though cause i wasnt really wearing it but after he left i thought about it, if he saw me where he said he saw me, he would have been pulling me over for my radio being up so loud not my seatbelt. You gotta be on your toes when your talkin to them they some sneaky SOB's

why would you lie to a police officer? They are only trying to do their job and it's people that lie to them which makes their job harder.

the indignance is a natural reaction to the realization of just how ******* ignorant they actually are. When you lie to someone, there is a presupposition there telling that person all sorts of things such as "YOU SURE ARE A STUPID MOTHER ******" or "**** YOUR IGNORANT"or " your so ******* stupid, if we converted your brains into fuel, it wouldn't be enough to power a piss ants mini bike halfway around a BB" The majority of pigs out there know deep down that they actually are that ignorant ,so naturally they're only means of defense is indignance!!!
