Christianity is a religion that seeks to establish a relationship between the person and Jesus Christ.

It is amusing when people say that they "do not have a religion, they have a relationship with jesus Christ." Their relationship with Jesus Christ IS their religion. They are just the only person who is a member of their religon.

Statistically speaking, it's a religion. While numbers will tell you that some huge percentage of the world's (or America's) population is "Christian," a much smaller portion of those actually are born again and have a relationship with Christ. It isn't wrong to call Christianity a religion. However, some of its most devoted followers aren't very religious at all. It is confusing. I don't care much for the negativity associated with religion and Christianity, and I like to draw the line wherever there may be one.

Having a "relationship" with Jesus is what happens when someone repents of their sin before God, forsakes that sin, and trusts in Him to save them. Many of these people know little of Christianity, while many "Christians" have never even repented of their sin and will not see Heaven.
