The answer depends very much on where you end up working. In some hospitals, where the veterinarian is more open-minded, you will be trained to run lab machines, check stool samples for worm eggs, draw blood, place catheters, fill prescriptions, answer phones and make appointments, go over estimates for treatments, take payments, discuss dietary recommendations, explain medical treatments to clients, and a whole host of other daily duties. In other hospitals, where the vet likes to do everything him/herself, you may be a glorified pet-holder, floor mopper and cage cleaner. Don't be afraid to switch jobs if you're not being "pushed" to learn as much as you would like! Good luck!
