To answere the question at hand, I have along with alot of other people. To the uneducated (aviation education) general population every small airplane is a Cessna. They became so popular because "in the day " they massed produced cheap reliable training aircraft. They were on every flight line. A money is more for those that have their pilots license and desire to move up from the typical trainer. Mooney makes some very nice planes, a bit on the expensive side, but very good planes nonetheless.
I'll take one of these!!!:

Hey, DR Dingo, I have seen you respond to some aviation related questions and have two for you. Do you really have any idea what your are talking about or are you one of those google search, cut and paste people out to increase their point count? I have another aviation related question I would like you at answer in your own words.
You have departed a class C airport and 15 miles out, the departure controller says" N12345 Frequency changed approved,
squawk vfr, good day" What is he/she telling you.?

One of my favorite aircraft manufacturers. I had a really long chat with Gretchen Jahn (the CEO) last year at Oshkosh '05 during the unveiling of the Mooney... "Ovation" I think? Can't remember.

But Mooney is awesome. And if the reason why you're asking is because you're thinking about purchasing one, don't think!!! They're wonderful aircraft, inside and out.

I know that it has been a very popular aircraft...some facts I found on the site.........

First pressurized single-engine, piston-powered aircraft (M22 Mustang)
First production aircraft to achieve 200 mph on 200 hp (M20J 201)
First single-engine power-control certified (FADEC) in the United States (M20L Porsche)
First single-engine aircraft certified for flight into known icing conditions (M20M Bravo DX w/TKS anti-icing system)
Fastest single-engine aircraft produced (Mooney Acclaim)
132 world speed records
Fastest transcontinental flight in a single-engine, piston-powered production aircraft
Altitude records
Fastest single-engine retractable, normally aspirated production aircraft
Routinely cruises at altitudes and speeds similar to a twin-engine turboprop

Mooneys are good airplanes but like every plane they do have their problems. The older ones had alot of fuel leak issues.

All of the people who live near Kerrville, TX have. Most pilots and people interested in private aviation have also. I fit into both groups.
