There are couples who are not so close in age. (30 year old woman with a 41 year old man, etc). So, is it bad for an 18 year old guy to be in love with a 12 year old girl? Is age really an issue when "love" is concerned? Is the "age barrier" relevent when it comes to issues such as these?

What about a 16 year old girl with a 17 year old boy, but the boy just turned 18...?
Nice answers so far, by the way.

Some of those people have age gaps as well. This just goes to prove, age shouldn't really matter, as long as both of them are beyond the age of 18. Correct?

The 18 year-old must have a deficient mind, that got infatuated with a young child..
Infatuation is not love..
If the 18 year old cares at all for the child, he should leave at once, before confusing her even more..
And then there's the legality of this..

The 30 to 41 age difference is legal, because they are two consenting adults. A 12 year old and 18 year old, however, is a different story, because while the 18 year old is of legal age, the 12 year old is not. If the 12 and 18 year olds ever did anything sexual and were caught, the 18 year old would be arrested for rape. And that is why it is not okay for an 18 year old to be in love with a 12 year old.

At young ages childeren don't have the same way of think of things as adults. There are laws for a reason
If the 12 year old girl got pregnant would she know how to look after the child?
Do you think the father would wait around?
If you think about it, the couple have to be ready to face anything that comes towards them, and I'll think you'll find most 12 year old girls and 18 year old guys have no idea how to look after childeren, or even want them. It may not happen, but thats the reason that there are laws, so it doesn't happen!
at 12 most girls dont truley understand love, or no what it is. so yes, the age barrier is relevent.

In your case it is wrong. If you are talking about anyone over the age of 18 then the age barrier doesn't apply and is only a state of mind. A 12 year old does not have the brain capacity that an 18 year old does, you are getting ready to graduate and move on in your adult life and she is not even in high school. You should go for someone more your age, that IS YOUNG LOOKING, if that is what you like or are attracted too. Otherwise people are going to start calling you a pedophile.

Well, it really depends. Besides the fact that is going to be very illegal to have any type relationship with this girl, you two are at very different points in your life. She's just about to finish middle school, you're about to start college. People change drastically in college, and though you may find her very attractive now, she may become very immature once you meet more women your age. However, if it truly is love, that love will wait until she's of age. Personally, my guy is 5 years older than I am, so that would've put me at 13 when he was 18. Age really doesn't make a difference once the younger hits 19/20, but before then, it really can.

A 12 year old does not fully understand love. They don't even know who they are yet. The 18 year old will be ready for a lot of things and will cause the 12 year old to grow up a little too fast.

Depending upon circumstances, age can matter. At twelve years old, a girl is too immature to understand love. She can be easily 'groomed' and exploited' by guys because young girls find it complimenting to be 'desired and loved' by older men. They do not yet have the skills necessary to know the differences between love and lust. If she is not allowed to mature naturally, she may never gain those skills and will suffer throughout life from men using her. The young man on the other hand is acting on hormones (older guys too). If at eighteen he is attracted to twelve year olds he is either extremely immature, possibly developmentally challenged or at the other extreme, a pedophile. In adulthood, that six year difference becomes less because their maturity level becomes more in line with each other. Even with adults, age differences can become a real problem in that the older man thinks because of having more life experience he can 'parent' his partner.

if a man falls in love with a twelve year old girl, he has to have some kind of problem, it's not really the age difference, it's just two differnt minds, how could he possibly relate to a girl who still has a mind to develope???, i think in this case age is a barrier............a 12 year old girl, an 18 year old guy................
a 42 year old woman, a 48 year old man....now thinK, is it really the same thing even though in both cases they're 6 years apart???now ask ur self why!

I think age is just a number when it's two consenting adults. It doesn't mean a thing.
At the age you are, and the age the girl is, it's illegal. And she really isn't quite mature enough to be in a relationship with a man your age. She is still a girl, and developing in every way, physically, mentally, emotionally, socially. You are an adult, she is a child.
Wait until she is 18 and you are 24. Then if you still like her, pursue the relationship.

I think age shouldn't be an issue in love unless it is illegal.
To me, if you are 18 and you love a 12 year old and the feeling is mutual, the two of you will wait to take part in a relationship until both are of legal ages.
If you don't, then the two of you obviously don't love eachother.
