This is a serious question. it is not all priests & pastors, but I know several people who have related that their first sexual encounter or abuse was at the hands of clergy. What's the explanation?

rpjoe:
The fact is that all the people that I've talked to (15) were molested by pastors, not priests.

Pedophiles will choose occupations and hobbies that place them near children in a position that will be trusted and respected by them. Teachers, coaches, priests, daycare workers, etc.

It just seems that way because it is so newsworthy to have a clergy person accused of pedophilia.

The fact is that, while about one in 87,000 adults is accused of child molestation at some point in their lives, the figure for clergy is about one in 152,000. So actually clergy are less likely to be accused than the general population.

And the victims are still more likely to be children and adolescents of the opposite rather than the same sex. Again, for whatever reason, that seems just slightly less likely to make the Evening News.

Just the other day in a town just up the road from me, the Chief of Police was arrested for running a child pornography ring. The media were there like flies to dung. Another trusted figure caught with his finger in the.... well, caught misbehaving, okay?

I think it's because the priesthood was used by gay catholics to try and resolve the problem of being told that their very nature is an abomination. By making this perspective real and by trying to bury the problem, their psyches are in a mess and the result will be unhealthy expression of their sexuality. It's exactly the same thing if negative baggage is associated with heterosexual sex -- it's why we see heterosexual pillars of the community who have long preached about the 'sins' of lust, engaging in pedophilia and other unhealthy expressions of their heterosexual sexuality. Again, when people suppress something that is healthy and natural (the fact that we humans are sexual beings and that sex is as natural as eating) because of artificial and rigid dogma, the result is going to be that this suppression will express itself in very unhealthy ways ... for BOTH heterosexuals and homosexuals. And, again, the reason we find homosexual pedophilia dominant in the priesthood is because it's well known that many homosexual catholics tried to resolve the problem by becoming priests.

People with the predilection for boys go were they can abuse them and not get caught.... the church provides them with access to children and protection from prosecution -- that is the reason so many pedophiles flock to become priest/pastors.

Why do you include pastors in this? It is reported there are over 1500 cases against priests in the USA alone.

my opinion is that it is because priests are men, and since they cannot take wives then they target that sexual drive towards someone who won't tell, which is sickening for me to even talk about, i don't think there could be anything more shameful than taking the innocence away from a child. The Bible teaches that singleness is wonderful if that is your calling, but if it is not then it is best to take a wife or husband so as to have an outlet for your fleshly desires.

becasue they are sick and twisted. i'm not sure where you came from (which area) but i've been surrounded by priestss my entire life and nothing like this has happened in my neck of the woods.

a true "shepard" of a flock is NOT one that would abuse children or anyone else for that matter.

As a rule they don't, but predators choose jobs(like priest or teacher) that let them have the control they want to do the sick things they want to.

They draw inspiration from the twisted morals of the bible, koran and torah. Burn every bible that you see, and kick every pastor that you encounter, so their tool won't hurt little boys.
